Photo Session FAQs

How do I book a Portrait Photography Session?
Once you’ve decided to book your photo session, please email me at amy@fantonphotography or give me a call on 07462907790 so we can schedule a shoot. I’m currently limiting the number of bookings I take on each month to balance my time being a photographer with my time being a mom, so if there is a specific date you have in mind it is best to contact me 1-2 months in advance to secure your preference. Of course there are also times that I am available on short notice so please give me a call to find out :)

Where will our Portrait Photography Session take place?
We can do your portrait session almost anywhere you would like–and the options here in London are endless! Many of my clients choose to have their portrait sessions outdoors in a park or garden, while others prefer more urban scenery, and still others prefer the intimacy and quiet setting of their own home. After we have have a chat about your family and any specific requirements you might have, I will help guide you to choose a location for our photography session that best fits your needs.

When should I book my Maternity Photography Session?
Generally, the best time to do a Maternity Photo shoot is between 6-8 months of pregnancy, although I’ve done maternity sessions right up to a few days before labor (and I actually had my own pregnancy photos taken about that time ;). The goal is to capture your beautiful belly once it’s full and quite obvious you are with child (vs maybe had a bit too much of a delicious meal last night!), but before you have progressed to a point that you become uncomfortable. All pregnancies progress differently, all women’s bodies are different and it really all comes down to how you are feeling. There is no question that women glow throughout their pregnancy and I will certainly capture those magical moments regardless of whether you book a pregnancy session at 5 months or 9.

When should I book my Newborn Photography Session?
For newborn photography, I generally take a “lifestyle” approach–meaning we aim to capture images of your first special moments together. While I am also happy to take more “posed” photos of the baby, these types of images really require a baby less than 14 days old so they are still very squishy and sleepy. If you aren’t set on the posed style of images, your baby’s age isn’t so important although you may still want to book earlier rather than later to capture some of the precious, fleeting newborn details that will be gone before you know it! Beyond the newborn/young infant stage, the next best time to do photos is around 6 month when the babies are a bit more interactive, are perhaps sitting up on their own, and have put on a little chub :)

What should we wear?
We LOVE color around here, as well as layers, clothing with texture, and accessories (think hats, scarves, jewelry, suspenders, ties, headbands, hair clips, bows etc.) For family shoots, it’s good to have a general color theme in mind while at the same time avoiding anything too matchy-matchy (Long gone are the days of matching white shirts and jeans!!). While it’s definitely important to be comfortable I usually recommend clients dressing up just a tad since you’ll have your photos for the rest of your life–you want to look spiffy! It’s also usually best to avoid any clothing with very busy patterns, bold graphics, or wording. If you need more help, I will gladly help you come up with something that both reflects who you are and photographs beautifully–just let me know! :)

What if it rains?
If you have chosen an outdoor option, we will also make a “back-up” plan in the event of rain. This can be in your home or another indoor London location. However, for those who are up for braving the weather– rainy day shoots can be a blast and result in some really beautiful and unique images! Sweet umbrellas, mud puddles, and rain boots make for some fantastic photos and some of my favorite shots ever were taken with a drizzle coming down!
